West Ham They got their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea Sunday.
debutante James Ward Bruce I got two passes Naif Ajord and Michel Antonio scored a goal before Lucas Paqueta He added a penalty late.
Here is the assessment of David Moyes’ team at the London Stadium…
Defying a terrible penalty shoot-out record with a crucial save from Fernandes kept the Hammers level at the break despite Chelsea’s dominance. Great save in stoppage time to get away Maduekioblique strike.
Let the early slip approx Chukwuemeka in. As tenacious as ever, though sloppy on the ball.
Poor clearance of Chilwell Cross allowed Chukwuemeka to equalize but then fit.
Nayef Aguerd 5
He opened the scoring with a fine header early on, then deftly covered behind suspect Emerson. Always walking a tightrope after the early booking, though, he often erred on Jackson to let his team down to ten and hang on.
Emerson 6
A real weak point in the back line Sterling pound Riots ran. He was booked for a rattling challenge on the wing. Improved once the winger drifted in, however, he won his penalty massively in injury time.
James Ward Bruce 8
Debut to the delight of Moyes. He made the opener with a trademark set piece delivery, then played a pedigree ball in the back to create Antonio’s strike.
Thomas Suchek 7
He struggled to get close to Chelsea’s midfield in possession but was checked and made several important blocking and clearances at the late rear guard. Let go of the hook after an undue rush has given a penalty.
Lucas Pack 7
Very calm in the first half, but he hit just off the post with a great effort. He was a tester for a few days amid earning the bet and looked over the edge emotionally at times, but a terrific heel back created a penalty, which he then converted into a points decider in injury time.
He was kept honest by Chilwell’s aggressive positioning on the left and did not emerge as an attacking threat until he moved through the middle late on.
Michael Antonio 7
Marginal in the first half but excellent in the second, holding the ball to give West Ham an outlet they had been lacking. Intimidating Colwell to hit home a great goal.
Said Benrahma 6
He was probably a little underused, getting a lot of change from right-back backup Gusto when he had the chance.
